Well, we have been getting some great press and I would like to thank the Garden Island Newspaper as well as Hawaii Stream for covering the event.  Check out their links for a quick preview of whats happening again this Saturday night Jan. 16th.  We are once again turning off the lights and plugging in the black light for an evening full of intrigue with Kauai’s own John Howard.  Rumor has it we will be accompanied by drummers and maybe even a trumpet?  Its so FUN!

Kauai Artist – John Howard

Kauai Artist John Howard will be our guest at a.ell atelier at this weeks Old Kapaa Town Art Walk on Saturday January 9, 2010 and showing through the end of the month.

John’s exhibition will feature portraits with extraordinary character and expression.  He combines both regular and flourescent pigments which give an unusual and beautiful effect.  When viewed under blacklight, his art takes on another dimension.

Don’t miss seeing this exciting and innovative exhibition!

a little bit about John…….

Howard lived and worked in New York City, London, Istanbul, and Los Angeles before moving to Kauai in 1995. John’s work hangs in many collections around the world and is featured in several of the top private collections in the USA.  His artwork has also been used on album covers for musicians.

For more on John look for an article in this Friday’s Garden Island Newspaper, written by Pam Woolway.

Feature Artist – Katherine Stack

Kathy Stack will be showing her paintings – originals and prints, this Saturday Nov 14th at a.ell atelier from 5-9.  This is our first show of many during the ‘Old Kapaa Town Art Walk’.  You don’t want to miss it!

KS promo photoIn 1983 when we moved to Colorado I took a watercolor class and knew I wanted to be an artist.  My Mom died that year, and my Dad gave me her paints and palette and so I worked in oils as well.  And then I worked in acrylics, and collage and clay.  Any medium works as long as I am experimenting and changing.  Composition and color are the most important to me.  I painted and sculpted masks and figures for years and am now moving more toward abstraction which I find very challenging.  But with four beautiful grandchildren, I am compelled to try and capture their little bodies in some form as well, so I continue drawing the human figure.

Besides showing at mainland galleries in California and Chicago, I designed and created individual “Spirit of Los Angeles” awards for the United Way of Greater LA by painting figures on paper, clay and tiles from 1994 to 2004.

I am currently returning to teaching with an after school art program at Wilcox Elementary.
